Decorative Polyurethane Corbels

are the way to go if you are trying to decorate and save money. Without a doubt Decorative Polyurethane Corbels are the most affordable from all the other Corbels. Whether it is stone, wood or plaster. Polyurethane Corbel is the most affordable one and it is also the one that is easy to install because it is light and it wont crack if you shoot it with a nail gun.
What is Corbel?
In Architecture , corbel is a piece sticking out of a wall to support weight of something like balcony or a parapet. Today you can see corbels being used as a decoration only. Many times in kitchens, underneath the counter tops of an kitchen island. Many old buildings have dozens of corbels sticking out to hold the weight of overhangs or balconies.
Can Decorative Polyurethane Corbels be painted?
Sure they can! And the best part is that you can paint them with any paint. Water-based, Oil-based, Spray cans, HVLP sprayers, Brush or Roller.

Polyurethane Decorative Ceiling Medallions
Beautiful touch to your ceiling decor. Polyurethane Decorative Ceiling Medallions are installed where Ceiling Chandeliers are going to go. To enhance the beauty of them. Ceiling Medallions used to be made from plaster but today most of the decor is Polyurethane. It would cost a fortune to have a Master Plaster Artisan to make you a Ceiling Medallion that you can buy in foam for 100 dollars or less.
How to install Ceiling Medallions?
Polyurethane Ceiling Medallions are installed using combination of glue and nails. I like to you use Liquid Nails and Cordless Nail Gun, but even hammer and nails will do. It is easy to install Polyurethane Ceiling Medallions because they are light weight and the hole in the middle cuts easily with hole saw.

Decorative Chair Rails
What are Chair Rails?

Dado Rails more known as chair rails used to be decorative and also had a purpose to protect walls from furniture, mostly chairs. They were made from plaster and later on from wood. Now days, you will almost never hear the term dado rails and they are mostly for decoration purpose than protection. Of course that in places like hospitals and schools you will see chair rail protecting wall from chairs or stretchers. Those most of the time made out of aluminum and have plastic covers on them. What I am going to write about are the Polyurethane Carved Chair Rails, as is the one on the left. These chair rails are very light durable and beautiful. You could not buy a carved wooden chair rails that are going to have the details of this molding without spending a fortune. When I say fortune I mean 10 dollars per foot and up. The wooden chair rails are sure beautiful, but can you afford them? If you can, you still might want to consider polyurethane chair rails and save money.
How high do I install Decorative Dad0 / Chair Rails?
Usually, if you are not planing using your chair rails to protect the walls from chairs, you can install the molding between 32 and 48 inches. If your room has 10 foot ceiling you can put it higher than when you have 7 foot ones. If yo are installing your decorative chair rail to be also a protective chair rail, than you will have to install it at the height which the chairs or other object hitting the wall.
What About The Wall Below The Decorative Chair Rail?
You have many choices, the easiest one is to leave it the way it is, but that will not give you the best aesthetic results. Painting the wall below with a different, usually darker shade color is an inexpensive and dramatic solution. You can also use bead board under the chair rails. This requires more time and money but of course the results are better. Wainscoting is another way to go. Wainscoting is very elegant feature but also the most time and money consuming but it is all worth it. There is many other choices you can go with. Just to mention few: Wall Covering, Faux Tin Ceiling Tiles, Metal Ceiling Tiles and other more.
Crown Molding That Matches The Chair Rails
When you are planning on great results you want your Moldings to Match. Here is crown molding and chair rails that match.

What Type Of Paint Can I Use?
Frankly, you can use any interior paint with these moldings. I would like to share my source of metallic paint with you: http://www.modernmasters.com
They are the best metallic water base paint I have found. Their paint is used on high end homes and one of the well known ones is Buckingham Palace.
Application:
You have some choices here as well. Good old brush is one of them. I like to spray my carved moldings and ceiling tiles and use a brush or rag to finish it if necessary. When you would like to do 2 colors. You can spray the chair rail or crown molding, let it dry and use a roller to accent the carvings. How about that ? I have done ceiling tiles this way.

Chair Rail Installation:
- Snap a line in a desired height all around the room or where ever you want the chair rail.
- Choose a starting point and cut your first cut. Most rooms are rectangular shape and the corners are close to 90 degrees. So your cut is usually 45 in the corners. If the the corners are not 90. You can measure the angles and divided by two and make your cuts then. Also a scrap piece of wood or molding can be used to determine the angle before you destroy your chair rail.
- Install your first using nail gun preferably. Don’t have one ? Use hammer and nails or glue.
- Glue each corner and each joint to make sure that your work will look good for years to come.
- Miter the joints. ( I use Hitachi Miter Saw for all my cuts). If you don’t have one use hand saw and a miter box.
- Keep on installing the molding on top of the line you have snapped until you have finished.
- Caulk and fill your nail holes and you are ready for painting after you caulk dries. Unless you have painted before and in that case you just need to touch up.
Summary:
By now you should have some idea what Decorative Chair Rails ( Dado Rails ) , where to use them and how to paint and install. The installation is not detailed and I am planning on making a step by step video on a professional install. If you have any question on installing, painting or purchasing. Call me directly at 754-367-8349 , leave a comment or email.
I am looking to hear from you soon.

Polyurethane Crown Molding
Polyurethane Crown Molding is superior to other crown moldings because of its durability, light weight a big selection of carved and plain designs and its price.
What is polyurethane?
Polyurethane is foam durable foam if you are seeking exact definition I have added a link in the first word of this paragraph.
Where is Polyurethane Crown Molding Used?
Polyurethane Crown Molding is used in many homes , high and low ends. A lot of this product is gaining popularity between home owners for its light weight and comfortable length to to work with. Many Architect and designers are drawn to this product for its architectural variety.
Now that plaster crown moldings almost disappeared, this is the new trend for all those beautiful Victorian Homes, Italian Villas and Colonials as well.
What Are The Disadvantages of Polyurethane Crown Moldings?
To many Trim Carpenters it may be the length. Most of these moldings come in 8 Foot sections. Which on the other hand is good for the transportation. I remember my self getting stuck in staircases on condominiums with 16 footers. ( This is not fun)
What are the Advantages of Polyurethane Crown Molding?
Price:
One of the best advantages is the cost. Especially when it comes to Carve Crown Molding any other material can not compare to PU Crown Molding for its price and quality.
Light Weight:
Imagine yourself on the bottom of a 12 foot ladder with a tool belt around your waste Nail gun in your hand and a 10 inch wide Crown Molding which is 16 ft long and the other and is a hand of your helper. Now you are trying to climb this ladder with this heavy molding. Once you get to the top you will try to see if it fits. It does not and you have to climb back down to the saw and cut an 1/16 of an inch. After 3 times of going back and forth you are wishing you had a polyurethane crown molding instead of MDF. So yes, definitely light weight is a good thing.
It is more forgiving:
Have you ever tried to install wooden crown molding and the ceiling was all over the joint? And you are pushing and pushing so hard that your head is turning red but the molding is not moving. With polyurethane it is much easier. The material is more forgiving.
Water_Proof:
No moisture absorbing, water permeation and mildew arising.
Fire-Proof:
reach the standard of no combustion and will not support fire.
Anti-Erosion:
Resist acid and alkali.
Where to Buy?
Are you are a home owner that need 8 pcs for one room or a builder that needs 1000 pcs . We can help you with your needs see our home page or call 754-367-8349.
